Mahindra has unveiled an intriguing new direction for its popular off-roader, the Thar, through the introduction of the Thar.e Electric Concept. Unlike the existing Thar model, which relies on a ladder-frame chassis, the Thar.e concept takes a fresh approach. It is constructed on Mahindra's innovative INGLO dedicated EV platform, a versatile foundation capable of accommodating diverse vehicle designs.
The Thar.e concept showcases a robust, boxy exterior design accentuated by squared fenders and an elevated stance. A distinctive front fascia features square headlights and a robust front bumper, while the rear exhibits a blacked-out appearance with a hint of a tailgate and a mounted spare tire.
Inside the Thar.e concept, simplicity takes center stage with a level dashboard and a central touchscreen infotainment system. To enhance off-road safety, the dashboard and door panels incorporate practical grab handles.
Under the hood, the Thar.e concept draws power from a dual-motor electric powertrain that impressively generates a combined 390 kW (equivalent to 523 horsepower). While specifics about the battery pack remain undisclosed, Mahindra asserts a commendable driving range of up to 435 km on a single charge.
Although the Thar.e concept remains in the prototype stage, Mahindra's intent to venture into electrification is unmistakable. While production plans for the concept are yet to be announced, it serves as a tantalizing glimpse into the potential future of the Thar.
